Avenging The Owl by Melissa Hart is a book dealing with suicide and depression. But when things go wrong for this family, they always are trying to stay positive and happy.
The main character, Solo Hahn, is a kind smart kid who loves to surf on Redondo Beach with his best friend Rajen when all of a sudden solo's father goes into deep depression. Solo's father eventually is so depressed that he attempts suicide and fails. Because of this attempt, Solo's father quits his job as a big time movie director and Solo's family moves to Oregon. Solo is devastated and doesn't want to move at all. At his yard sale, he finds a kitten, alone and solo, like Solo. Solo keep this kitten. In Oregon, Solo and his family live in a trailer, and his kitten escapes through a hole in the screen door. While Solo is meeting his new neighbors, he meets a kid named Eric. Some stuff happens that I won't say (read the book to find out!!) and he gets in trouble. Solo now has to do community service at a raptor center, though he absolutely HATES birds.
